Surgical Technologist - UMMC West Bank Hospital

Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist in the Operating Room at the University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank located in Minneapolis, MN.

We’re offering a $7500 sign-on bonus along with a generous relocation bonus up to $5,000!

This is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two week pay period), benefits-eligible opening, D/E/N rotating shift opening with weekends as needed. 

There is a call requirement above FTE and a 45-minute response time for most service lines, 30 minutes for CV service line. 

As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room. 

As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for:

• Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
• Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
• Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
• Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
• Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
• Following appropriate action in emergency situations.

Required Qualifications:

• Complete one of the following by hire date:
  • Military Surgical Assistant; OR
  • LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
  • Surgical Technologist training
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
• 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience

Other Required Skills:

• Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.

Desired Skills:

• Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
• Ability to work well under a team environment.
