The University of Minnesota Medical Center is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. We provide nursing services to patients scheduled for elective surgical procedures.
Our clinical staff apply innovative approaches to creating medical breakthroughs based their work with patients and on findings through research at the University of Minnesota. Through teamwork and collaboration, we respectfully address the physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of our patients and their families.
This is a casual position working days, no weekends or holidays.
Responsibilities Job Description
- The RN provides preoperative education for elective surgical patients, of all ages from culturally diverse populations, and/or their families/significant others prior to their surgical procedure
- The RN assesses patients preoperatively via the pre-operative phone call or visit
- The RN utilizes Perioperative Services plan of care
- The RN communicates/Refers significant information regarding the patient’s health to surgical services, anesthesia services, the patient care unit and other appropriate health care professionals
- The RN evaluates available information and interventions to assure that the patient is ready for their surgical procedure
- The RN utilizes information management systems available to the Preadmissions Department
Qualifications
Required:
- MN RN licensure
- BLS
- Mnimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in perianesthesia nursing, with proficiency in assessing the physical and psychosocial needs of a culturally diverse patient population.
Preferred:
- BSN
