The Emergency Department at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital is a modern 44-bed Level 3 Trauma Center, built in 2015 and serving over 70,000 patients annually. With specialized programs including a heart center, comprehensive stroke care, and mobile ECMO, this fast-paced unit delivers high-acuity care with precision and compassion. The team—made up of emergency physicians, nurses, ER techs, and support staff—works collaboratively to ensure timely, patient-centered treatment. The Nursing Manager manages nursing practice and patient care operations in collaboration with and accountable to the Nursing Director, This includes: nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads day-to-day operations of assigned area(s) to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.
- Plans, manages, coordinates and evaluates patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
- Handles equipment inventory and supply management within operational budget.
- Accountable for capacity management to promote patient flow.
- Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the quality improvement initiatives.
In addition, the Nurse Manager:
- Is responsible for human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
- Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Advocates for patient, family and staff needs.
- Drives improvement activities that promote patient centered care and positive customer experience.
- In partnership the Nursing Practice and Education team assure that evidence based/standard process clinical care is being delivered.
- Ensures staff compliance in areas of job requirements, education and clinical competency.
- Works with Nurse Director to establish goals and objectives.
- Promotes a culture of high employee engagement, professional development, nursing education and research.
- Partners with interprofessional team members across the continuum of care to achieve organizational outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing *If Bachelor’s degree is not in nursing must have a Master’s degree is nursing
- 3 years nursing experience, at least two of which is in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role
- 2 years experience in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role
- MN Registered Nurse (RN) License or ability to obtain Minnesota nursing license Upon Hire
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science Nursing
- ANCC or AONL Certification
- 3 years of acute care nursing experience in a formal leadership position (PCS, ANS)

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical.
