What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inventory Manager - Pharmacy Inpatient Services position at Fairview Health Services?
The Inventory Manager plays an important role in providing quality, timely and professional pharmacy services within an inpatient pharmacy environment. This position manages all operations related to the purchasing, inventory management, storage and disposition of pharmaceuticals, blood derivative products, intravenous fluids and other supplies at an assigned Hospital site. This may include oversight of drug recalls, drug return and drug waste processes, management of medication shortages and management of the medication dispensing and distribution systems.
- Using standard operating procedures (SOPs), designs and implements systems to assure quality and efficiency in operations related to product acquisitions, inventory control, medication safety, controlled drug systems and business related systems.
- Partners with stakeholders to minimize overall inventory levels while ensuring that stock out situations are prevented.
- Analyze and monitor data reports and other indicators, making changes as necessary to optimize purchasing functions at local site and participate in system purchasing and inventory control initiatives.
- Communicates with pharmacy leadership and other stakeholders about the status of any manufacturer drug shortages, partnering to create an alternate plan where appropriate.
- Responsible for invoice processing, record keeping and regulatory documentation and compliance related to medication purchasing, product returns and interdepartmental charges.
- This includes maintenance and oversight of required controlled substance documentation.
- Partners with site pharmacy leadership and pharmacy services contracting team to authorize and implement pharmaceutical purchasing contracts, conducting meetings with vendors and coordinating product education as needed.
- Accountable for the purchasing of pharmaceuticals (including controlled substances), blood derivative products, intravenous fluids and pharmaceutical supplies following established SOPs
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts in relevant business, healthcare or manufacturing field
- 3 years of experience in a pharmacy technician or buyer role in an inpatient care setting
- Registered Technician MNBP Must be nationally certified within 1 Year
Preferred Qualifications
- Pharmacy Technician MN Completion of pharmacy technician training program American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)
- Pharmacy certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Other National Pharmacy Technician certification will also be accepted
