Job Overview

Fairview has an opportunity for a fulltime, day shift Laboratory Clinical Development Specialist, located at Fairview Midway Campus. This position does not require working weekends or holiday.

 

The Lab Clinical Development Specialist provides strategic technical expertise and leadership in the configuration, documentation, testing, modification, and ongoing maintenance of laboratory software applications. This role plays a critical part in bridging operational needs with technology solutions by applying deep knowledge of clinical applications, laboratory workflows, and system design principles throughout the specification and development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • This role reports directly to Laboratory Operations as applicable and requires strong cross-functional collaboration, particularly with IT, to ensure systems meet clinical, operational, and regulatory needs while advancing innovation and efficiency across the laboratory environment.
  • Lead the configuration and optimization of laboratory applications by translating complex business and clinical requirements into precise technical specifications.
  • Support system upgrades, enhancements, and integration efforts, ensuring solutions are well-documented, tested, and aligned with both laboratory and enterprise-level goals.
  • Actively participate in planning and execution of projects that impact laboratory informatics, contributing to system design and change management efforts.
  • Take a leading role in defining, optimizing, and overseeing laboratory IT workflows to drive efficiency, consistency, and strategic alignment across laboratory systems.
  • Driving the prioritization of service catalog requests in collaboration with operations and facilitating the ranking of enhancements and projects based on strategic value
  • Analyzing incoming requests for completeness and clarity to support accurate implementation.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Operations to create and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and customer-facing materials to support system adoption and compliance.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and revision of laboratory procedures.
  • Design and deliver educational SOPs for laboratory users focused on relevant IT technologies
  • Partner closely with IT to provide mentorship and subject matter expertise to IT and LIS (Laboratory Information Systems) team members, particularly in the areas of application builds, software validation, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
  • Delivers accurate and efficient application workflow and functional analysis, including system build, configuration, unit testing, and integrated testing
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within the designated application area, ensuring system stability, accuracy, and performance.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of operational workflows to ensure solutions effectively meet evolving business and clinical needs
  • Develops and implements comprehensive transition plans to ensure a seamless handoff from project implementation to ongoing application support. Continuously maintains a deep understanding of operational workflows to ensure all solutions are aligned with business goals and clinical priorities.
  • Aligns performance with strategic objectives by ensuring that application development, support, and enhancements contribute to organizational efficiency, compliance, and long-term innovation.
  • Leverage expertise to design both new and existing applications. Propose, configure, test, and troubleshoot code for existing and new programs, ensuring alignment with end-user needs and optimal system performance.
  • Analyze user data and business requirements to deliver user-centric solutions that maximize program efficiency
  • Partner with the QA team to define test cases and generate or extract test data to ensure comprehensive validation of all deliverables. Address inquiries and resolve issues promptly as code progresses through testing and into production. Provide support during implementation and post-production as needed.
  • Effectively deliver comprehensive application support through workflow and functional analysis, configuration, unit and integration testing, and planning for seamless transition to ongoing maintenance and support. Maintain a strong understanding of operational workflows to ensure solutions effectively meet evolving business needs.
  • Maintain documentation demonstrating regulatory compliance. Represent Lab General IT CAP checklist during compliance inspections and address any identified issues or findings.
  • Stay current with business domain expertise and advancements in software development technologies and practices.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned applications, proactively supporting technology and business teams to ensure quality outcomes and minimize cross-application or process impacts
  • Mentor staff on technology, methodologies, and standards, fostering a culture of continuous learning. Actively share knowledge and collaborate with IT teams to ensure timely and effective responses to customer needs


Required Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college/university in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology or related laboratory field.
  • 2 years Laboratory and IT application experience
  • Applicant must possess or be eligible to receive appropriate Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved laboratory certification. ASCP, ASCPi, or AMT – MLS, MT or MLT within 1 Year or
  • Laboratory certification in a specialty area will be considered. ASCP – CT or SCT ASCP or ASCPi – BB, C, CG, HTL, M, MB, SBB, SC, SCYM, SH, SM, SMB, SV, or V AMT – MDT, MLS, or MT ACHI – CHS or CHT

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years Laboratory or IT application experience

Compensation Disclaimer

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
