About The Role
We are looking for a Big Data Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of Fairstone’s data pipelines and analytics infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who has early career experience in data engineering and is looking to deepen their skills in cloud-based big data platforms while working alongside experienced data engineers, analytics professionals, and data scientists.
You will contribute to building reliable, scalable, and secure data solutions that enable reporting, analytics, and data science use cases across the organization.
- Support the development and maintenance of cloud-based data pipelines for extracting, transforming, and loading data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts to ensure data is accessible, reliable, and well-structured for analytics and reporting.
- Assist in implementing data governance, data quality, and security standards, including collaborating with data custodians across different departments as needed.
- Contribute to the design and operation of data lake and analytics solutions using AWS Glue, AWS Lake Formation, and related services.
- Perform basic root cause analysis and troubleshooting on data pipelines to identify data quality or performance issues.
- Help build and maintain datasets and data models that support key performance indicators and customer analytics.
- Continuously searching for opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance within existing data systems.
- Ensure solutions adhere to Fairstone’s information security and data privacy policies.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, and team retrospectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- 1–3 years of experience in a data engineering or similar analytics-focused engineering role.
- Hands-on experience working with data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, or data integration workflows.
- Experience working with structured and semi-structured datasets.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience working in or exposure to Agile/Scrum development environments.
- SQL for querying and data validation.
- Python (or similar scripting language) for data processing or automation.
- AWS services such as S3, Glue, Athena, RDS, or Redshift (hands-on or project-based experience).
- Experience or academic exposure to Databricks.
- Exposure to data lake or cloud analytics architectures.
- Coursework or experience related to data governance or data security.

- Expected base salary range is 85,000$ - 95,000$ , plus the opportunity to earn an annual incentive bonus tied to performance.
