Location: Fairhope Residential LLC- Fairhope, AL
Position Type: Full-Time/Part-Time
Reports To: Executive Director/QDDP/ Nurse Supervisor
Position Summary
The Caregiver is responsible for providing compassionate, high-quality direct care to adults in a developmental disabilities group home setting. This role includes assisting residents with personal care, daily living activities, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The Caregiver will also support the home’s kitchen operations by preparing meals and ensuring the home is kept in a sanitary, organized, and comfortable condition for residents. This position plays a vital role in helping residents live as independently as possible while ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal Care and Support
- Provide direct assistance with personal care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and hygiene as needed.
- Assist with mobility and transfers, ensuring residents' safety and comfort.
- Help residents with eating and meal preparation, including assistance with feeding if necessary.
- Monitor the physical and emotional well-being of residents and report any changes in condition to management or healthcare professionals.
- Administer prescribed medications as per individual care plans and document as required.
- Support residents in achieving their individual goals and outcomes, including promoting independence in daily activities.
- Housekeeping Duties
- Perform regular cleaning and maintenance tasks in residents' rooms and common areas, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
- Ensure that the home is kept in a safe, comfortable, and hygienic condition at all times.
- Manage laundry duties, including washing, drying, folding, and organizing personal clothing and linens.
- Ensure that residents’ personal belongings are maintained, organized, and kept in a secure location.
- Meal Preparation and Kitchen Duties
- Plan, prepare, and serve meals based on dietary needs and preferences of the residents.
- Follow safe food handling procedures, including proper storage and sanitation practices.
- Assist residents during mealtime, providing help with feeding or encouraging self-feeding as appropriate.
- Clean kitchen and dining areas after meals, ensuring dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment are properly sanitized and stored.
- Monitor residents’ nutrition, ensuring that they are receiving appropriate meals and snacks based on their dietary restrictions or preferences.
- Support and Interaction
- Engage in positive, respectful interactions with residents, encouraging socialization and participation in activities.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, fostering an environment of dignity and respect.
- Assist residents with community outings, recreational activities, and engagement in hobbies or social activities as appropriate.
- Transportation
- Drive residents to appointments in the community designated vehicle as assigned by the supervisor
- Accompany residents to doctors appointments and take notes as assigned by the supervisor
- Documentation and Communication
- Maintain accurate records related to resident care, including health observations, activities, and any incidents.
- Communicate with supervisors, delegating nurse, and family members regarding the well-being of residents and any significant changes in condition or behavior.
- Assist in updating care plans based on resident needs and preferences, providing feedback on the effectiveness of current support strategies.
- Safety and Compliance
- Ensure that residents’ safety and personal rights are respected at all times, adhering to the home’s policies and procedures.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including infection control protocols, lifting and handling procedures, and emergency response protocols.
- Report any safety hazards, incidents, or concerns to the supervisor immediately.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Additional certifications CPR & first aid are required and CNA, or other relevant fields preferred.
- Unencumbered driver’s license in the State of Alabama
- Experience:
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, preferred but not required.
- Experience with personal care, housekeeping, and meal preparation is highly desirable.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful demeanor.
- Ability to provide personal care assistance in a sensitive and dignified manner.
- Ability to handle physical tasks, including lifting and assisting with mobility.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with residents, families, and staff.
- Ability to follow detailed care plans and instructions.
- Organizational skills for housekeeping and meal planning/preparation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of basic safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ability to lawfully and safely operate a motor vehicle
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to assist and move residents (up to 50 pounds, with assistance if necessary).
- Ability to perform cleaning, cooking, and other physical tasks.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time.
- Clearance:
- Must pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and other required screenings.
Work Environment
- Work will be performed in a residential group home setting with varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- The environment requires attention to safety, hygiene, and creating a supportive, nurturing atmosphere for residents.
