Positions And Starting Wage

  • Pay Scale: $18.00 - $19.50 an hour (depending on experience)
  • Shift: 2:30PM - 11:00PM (2nd Shift)
  • Status: Full-time

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs)

  • Graduate of an accredited CNA course

Job Description

Primary Function: Performs various direct patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of residents.

Essential Functions

  • Performs direct patient care within the framework of CNA training according to the patient’s care plan and Fairhaven policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to: personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, medical assistance, food service, transporting to activities, communicating, transferring, room or space cleaning or improvement and overall comfort
  • Contributes to the care planning process by providing the charge nurse or other care planning staff with specific information and observations of the residents’ needs and preferences.
  • Provides individualized attention, which encourages each resident’s ability to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Responds to residents’ call lights in a prompt and courteous manner, evaluating and responding to residents’ needs within the scope of the CNA training or notifies the nurse if nursing interventions are necessary.
  • Charts and documents as directed by nursing supervisor, including but not limited to restorative documentation, resident intake, output, meal percentage, 7-day look back, POC and ADL performance evaluation.
  • Reports all significant events involving the residents’ medical condition or behavior to nursing administration on duty.
  • Provides care that maintains each resident’s skin integrity according to Best Practices of Care and Fairhaven’s policies and procedures.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures including, but not limited to, thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated, use of gel products per CDC recommendations and proper disposal of soiled materials.
  • Performs various tasks assigned by the charge nurse including vital signs, residents’ weights, applying creams as per Fairhaven’s Topical Policy, collecting specimens, etc.
  • Follows up with supervisor, coworker or resident regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Participates in creating an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity, cleanliness, safety and well-being of each resident.
  • Safeguards privacy and confidentiality of all resident health care information which includes complying with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Acts as a customer service representative and public relations ambassador for Fairhaven with residents, families, vendors, volunteers, and other visitors
  • Interacts positively with all residents at all times creating an atmosphere which promotes a homelike environment.
  • Maintains, cares for, and safely uses supplies and equipment effectively and efficiently per Fairhaven policies and procedures.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions; follows infection control and waste management procedures as they relate to this position.
  • Reports incidents of abuse, neglect, or a violation of the resident’s rights immediately
  • Protects personal belongings of each resident, reports missing items, and assists in attempting to locate them.
  • Completes all in-service training requirements in a timely manner.
  • Completes all duties and tasks as assigned.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

Type of work and characteristics of duties require:

  • Physical condition allowing for normal CNA duties including but not limited to; lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, stooping, kneeling, sitting, reaching, grabbing, pushing, pulling, standing or walking an entire shift, use of arms and hands with dexterity to aide residents and give treatments, ability to read labels, nursing orders and care plans.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain a high energy level.
  • Computer knowledge necessary to perform work duties.
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly manner to residents and coworkers in English.
  • Ability to perform a variety of activities and to adapt to a quickly changing environment as it relates to resident care
  • Ability to show warmth, love and compassion and to make residents feel comfortable.
  • Comfort in working in a Christian Retirement Center environment.
  • Ability to use tactful, appropriate, communications, in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Adherence to attendance policy, understanding residents’ needs for 24/7 care.
  • Adherence to all regulations specified in the Fairhaven employee handbook, procedures and policy. documents

Other Duties

  • Identifies improvements to processes and recommend changes to management.
  • Identifies safety hazards and emergency situations and initiates corrective action or report.
  • Assists the immediate supervisor with various administrative tasks to support department operations as directed.
  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Experience & Education Or Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current CPR registration within 6 months of hire
  • Successful completion of Illinois state approved Nursing Assistant Training Program
  • Per CNA regulations, may not be employed more than 120 days prior to successful completion of the CNA program
