Fairfield Performing Arts Studio (FPAS) is seeking an energetic, creative improv instructor to lead two class sections this season: one for grades 3–5 and one for grades 6–10. This is a fantastic opportunity for a performer or teaching artist who loves helping young people build confidence, quick thinking, and collaborative skills through the fundamentals of improvisational theatre.

Class Details

  • Grades 3–5: 1-hour class, focused on foundational improv games, imagination-building, and ensemble play in a fun, low-pressure environment
  • Grades 6–10: 1 hour 15-minute class, with more advanced scene work, character development, and long-form improv concepts appropriate for older students

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead weekly age-appropriate improv curriculum for both class sections
  • Create a supportive, high-energy classroom environment that encourages risk-taking and creativity
  • Track student progress and communicate with FPAS leadership regarding class needs
  • Collaborate with FPAS staff on scheduling, studio policies, and any culminating student showcases
  • Maintain classroom management appropriate to each age group

Qualifications

  • Experience performing and/or teaching improv (improv troupe, theatre background, or preferred formal training)
  • Prior experience working with children and/or teens in an educational or theatrical setting
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently
  • CT background check/clearance required

Details

  • Location: Fairfield Performing Arts Studio, 1899 Bronson Road, Fairfield, CT
  • Schedule: Tuesday Sept. 8-Dec 9 - 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm (no class on Oct. 13 & Nov. 24)
  • Compensation: $40–$65/hour, commensurate with experience
