Position Summary:
The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for leading all housekeeping and laundry operations while ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction throughout the hotel. As a key member of the hotel’s Leadership Team, this position works closely with department managers to maintain brand standards, promote operational excellence, and create a positive work environment. The Housekeeping Manager oversees staffing, training, inventory management, quality assurance, and departmental compliance while fostering a culture focused on exceptional guest service and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and coach housekeeping team members.
- Train associates on company policies, brand standards, cleaning procedures, and safety requirements.
- Schedule, supervise, and delegate daily assignments to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development.
- Address employee concerns professionally and promote accountability within the department.
Housekeeping Operations:
- Oversee the daily operations of the housekeeping and laundry departments.
- Ensure all guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas meet Marriott brand cleanliness and presentation standards.
- Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, and housekeeping carts to ensure quality and consistency.
- Respond promptly to guest requests and resolve housekeeping-related concerns in a professional manner.
- Coordinate with the Front Office and Maintenance departments to ensure guest room readiness and operational efficiency.
Inventory & Administrative Functions:
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of linens, guest supplies, cleaning chemicals, and housekeeping equipment.
- Coordinate with vendors to order supplies and ensure timely deliveries.
- Monitor departmental expenses and assist in controlling labor and supply costs.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, inspections, maintenance requests, and departmental reports.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and departmental planning as requested.
Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with Marriott brand standards, company policies, and housekeeping procedures.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, state, and local safety regulations.
- Promote proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Ensure all associates follow established safety and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment throughout the hotel.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; hospitality or business management education preferred.
- Previous housekeeping supervisory or management experience in a hotel environment strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of housekeeping operations, cleaning procedures, and inventory management.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and hotel Property Management Systems preferred.
- Ability to maintain professionalism while providing exceptional guest service.
- Highly organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Frequently standing and walking throughout the property.
- Regular bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as business demands require.
- Ability to work in both guest-facing and back-of-house environments.
