Job Summary
The Room Attendant is responsible for maintaining clean, comfortable, and inviting guest rooms in accordance with hotel standards. This role plays a critical part in the overall guest experience by ensuring rooms exceed cleanliness expectations and contribute to guest satisfaction, loyalty, and repeat visits.
In addition to cleaning responsibilities, Room Attendants support hotel revenue and guest retention by identifying guest needs, personalizing the guest experience, and assisting with light sales and service opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Room Preparation
- Change bed linens and make beds according to hotel standards
- Vacuum carpets and clean floors thoroughly
- Dust all furniture, fixtures, and surfaces
- Clean and sanitize bathrooms including toilets, sinks, showers, and mirrors
- Remove fingerprints, smudges, and marks from all surfaces
- Ensure room setup meets brand and company standards
- Set lighting, temperature, and room ambiance to approved settings before leaving
Room Inspection & Reporting
- Report all maintenance issues, damages, or missing items immediately
- Notify management of unusual activity (sleep-outs, extra guests, no luggage, etc.)
- Turn in all lost and found items promptly following proper procedures
- Maintain accountability for room keys and security access
Guest Interaction & Satisfaction
- Greet guests warmly when encountered and offer assistance when appropriate
- Respect guest privacy while remaining approachable and helpful
- Respond promptly to guest requests or communicate needs to the appropriate department
- Take pride in room presentation to create a “wow” experience for every guest
- Identify opportunities to personalize the guest experience (extra towels, preferred setup, etc.)
Sales Awareness & Guest Experience Enhancement
- Observe guest preferences and communicate valuable information to the front desk or management (e.g., long-stay guests, families, business travelers)
- Promote hotel amenities when interacting with guests (pool, breakfast, fitness center, patio, etc.)
- Encourage repeat visits by creating a clean, comfortable, and memorable stay experience
- Support upselling efforts by preparing upgraded rooms to a high standard and noting readiness to the front desk
Prospecting & Revenue Support (Housekeeping Role)
- Identify potential extended-stay or repeat guests and share insights with management
- Notify leadership of guests who may benefit from upgrades or additional services
- Maintain consistency and quality that drives positive reviews and return business
- Contribute to guest satisfaction scores, which directly impact revenue and occupancy
Teamwork & Communication
- Communicate effectively with housekeeping supervisors and other departments
- Assist with additional cleaning tasks or special projects as assigned
- Support team members to ensure all rooms are completed on time
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety, security, and cleanliness standards
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment properly
- Maintain a clean and organized cart and workspace

Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience:
Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience preferred but not required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift
- Frequent use of hands for cleaning and handling equipment
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Requires stamina and physical endurance
