Job Overview
Lake Accotink Park is seeking a reliable and motivated individual to join our team as a Seasonal Manager on Duty! In this role, you’ll ensure the safe and efficient daily operation of the park and its lakefront facilities. Morning shifts focus on opening the park and preparing it for staff and visitors, while evening shifts are responsible for closing and securing all facilities at the end of the day. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, taking initiative, and helping maintain a welcoming environment for all park guests.
Duties:
- Performs routine maintenance and custodial tasks to include emptying trash cans, collecting ground trash, and cleaning restrooms and other areas.
- Serves as facility attendant for park Visitors Center. Answers phones, greets patrons, performs administrative work such as updating logs, creating written materials for use by staff and patrons. Assists in maintaining clean, organized workspaces and visitor areas.
- Takes initiative to increase knowledge of the park, its facilities, programs, services, and resources.
- Assist Assistant Manager and programming team with developing and teaching/leading programs and events.
- Serves as primary contact point for park visitors and customers. Provides verbal and written information and directions relating to facilities, programs, picnic area use, trails, natural and cultural resources, and other topics.
- Stays up to date on Park Authority Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, state and county laws, and other pertinent guidance.
- Notes safety/security and maintenance concerns, addresses them where feasible, and reports them using appropriate methods and recordkeeping.
- Acts as lead first responder on behalf of the Park Authority in potential and actual emergency situations occurring on site while on duty.
- Supervises marina operations during assigned Manager-on-Duty shifts.
- Duties may include making purchases on behalf of the site, adhering to county and Park Authority purchasing policies and procedures.
- Completes special projects and tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent, a combination of course work in education, parks and recreation, hospitality and tourism, business, or related field, at the college level, plus 2 years of successful employment in a position of responsibility.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Valid driver’s license and excellent driving history.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience in planning, implementing, and leading adult and family classes and events.
- Ability to communicate in a language that is prevalent in the local community, in addition to English fluency.
- Experience working in a public park setting.
Special Requirements: Must be able to work in conditions ranging from direct sunlight to complete darkness as well as inclement weather ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat. Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and lift up to 40 pounds. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry. Be certified in: First Aid, CPR, A.E.D, Boater Safety, Basic Water Safety, and MAT certification or within 30 days.
