Job Summary
Position Title: Head Lifeguard
Location: Audrey Moore Rec Center, 8100 Braddock Rd, Annandale, VA 22003
Hours:
- Midday shift times vary between 6:00am to 4:00pm
- Weekday evenings shift times vary between 4:00pm to 9:30pm
- Weekend shift times vary between 7:30am to 7:00pm
Salary: $17.44-$19.20 per hour, increases based upon availability, experience, and certifications.
Overview: The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) provides quality facilities and services which offer guest’s opportunities for recreation to improve their physical and mental well-being, and enhancement of their quality of life.
Our lifeguards are licensed through the Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP). Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the Ellis & Associates ILTP program which is offered through FCPA.
Duties:
- Ensure health and safety of guests by pool surveillance and enforcement of park policies.
- Perform rescue and emergency care as needed (both in water and on land).
- Provide immediate first aid treatment to guests in distress as needed both on land & in water.
- Maintain water and rescue skills at a "test ready" level at all times.
- Participate in regularly scheduled mandatory in-service trainings for a minimum of 4 hours per month.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Operational/Cleaning duties including, locker room, pump room, natatorium.
- Maintain professional attitude and image at all times.
- Head Lifeguards have supervisory responsibilities and duties as assigned by site supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ellis & Associates ILTP license (preferred Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor).
- Certified Pool Operator’s license (CPO/AFO).
- FCPA Aquatic Leadership Training (ALT) Course Certification (within 6 months of hire/offered by FCPA).
- One year experience operating pool mechanical systems and equipment preferably in the FCPA system.
- One year experience in pool operation and staff supervision preferably in the FCPA system.
- Lifeguard course prerequisites include:
- Swim 100 yards continuously using a front crawl or breaststroke.
- Retrieve a 10-pound dive brick from the deepest part of the facility’s pool.
- Tread water without hands for one minute.
- Have 20/25 or 20/25 corrected vision.

Note: Part-time benefits eligible positionsare scheduled to work a minimum 1,040 hours and no more than a maximum of 1,560 hours in a calendar year.
