Summary
Assist the product engineering group, mechanical systems and electrical engineers in the design of, but not limited to; components, assemblies, engine and generator support structures, and piping arrangements across all engine product lines. Also supports non-engine related product drafting for component insourcing.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare mechanical layouts, assemblies and detail sketches as directed by product engineers and designers.
- Develop accurate design models using 2D and 3D design tools for interfacing with finite element analysis software, manufacturing process programming, and production drawing releases.
- Analyze for form, fit and function for the design of interchangeable parts.
- Provide basic material selections and Bill of Material structure.
- Participate in Engineering Change Order implementations.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- Minimum of an associate degree in Mechanical Design Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent professional experience of one to five years of in a mechanical designer role.
- Ability to work from marked prints, written directions and minimal verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.5M GD&T dimensioning & tolerances.
- 2D and 3D CAD proficiency required (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and PMD preferred).
- Experience in piping systems, heavy weldments, and AWS drafting symbols preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required, Oracle software experience preferred.
- Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
- This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.
