We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.
Job Summary
The Guest Services Clerk provides professional services in a variety of positions throughout the Fair Grounds facility to satisfy customer inquiries, needs and request in a manner which meets and exceeds customer and company expectations. The Guest Service Clerk may be assigned to one of the following functional positions: Program Clerk, Admission Clerk, Usher, Program Runner, Gold Room Attendant, Will Call, Shuttle Driver.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Must be 21 years or older. Must be able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission.
Education And Experience
High School diploma or equivalent. Pari-mutuel industry and cash handling experience are desirable but not necessary. Ability to work in a high-volume environment. Excellent verbal communications skills with strong attention to detail. Be a self-starter and work with minimum supervision. Ability to work overtime and flexible hours as required including nights, weekends and holidays. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common documentation. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from team members, regulatory agencies or members of the staff. Ability to write and present information to management in a reasonable manner. Ability to perform normal mathematical computations in regards to the implementation of current duties. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Constant wrist motion, sit, hear and eye/hand coordination; Frequently speak, read, write, stand, walk, bend and stoop; Occasionally lift, carry, push and pull. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk. The employee frequently is also required to stand, walk and reach with arms and hands, bend and have the ability to lift at least 25 pounds. Office/Casino environment; Subject to outdoor temperature; Exposed to smoke bright lights and noise at times. The work environment consists of very non-demanding surroundings with a low noise level.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Accounts for all monies, physical inventories, coupons, etc. for the positions requiring such and reconciles daily cash handling activities to confirm accuracy of cash received at beginning of shift and cash returned at end of shift.
- Ensures compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements.
- Disseminates accurate and real-time information to customers regarding the Fair Grounds’ offerings and escalates request for information to superiors when needed. Educates customers about the offerings as needed.
- Creates and maintains a working environment conductive to positive morale, quality, creativity and teamwork.
- Maintains positive relations with customers and provides service satisfactory to customer and Fair Grounds requirements.
- Anticipates and responds to a wide variety of customer needs and request quickly and efficiently.
- Consults with customers to maintain goodwill and obtain satisfactory outcomes for disputes. Escalates disputes to superiors when appropriate.
- Builds customer goodwill through the use of proper etiquette techniques.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
