What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Engineer, Systems and Performance position at faFAANG?
faFAANG was built by engineers who have been through the FAANG interview loop themselves. We know what it feels like to blank on a question you actually know the answer to. We built the tool we wished existed, and it turns out a lot of other engineers wished for it too.
We are launching out of beta on April 28th and we are looking for someone to help us make the product significantly faster and to help us build the macOS version from the ground up.
What you will work on
The core of this role is performance and systems. faFAANG does a lot in real time during a live interview — local speech transcription, AI response streaming, screen capture, overlay rendering, global shortcuts — and every millisecond of latency is felt by the user at the worst possible moment. Your job is to make all of it faster and more reliable.
On the transcription side, we use a local Moonshine pipeline today. We want someone who can dig into the transcription stack in Rust, reduce pipeline latency, and make the real-time speech-to-text experience feel instantaneous.
On the macOS side, we are building the Mac version of faFAANG and we need someone who understands the platform deeply. Window management, capture exclusion, global input handling and audio on macOS are all meaningfully different from Windows. If you have worked with macOS internals, accessibility APIs, or CoreAudio, you will hit the ground running.
What we are looking for
You have strong Rust experience and you care about performance at a systems level, not just in benchmarks. You understand how latency compounds across a pipeline and you know how to instrument, profile, and fix it. Experience with audio processing, speech pipelines, or real-time systems is a big plus.
For the macOS work, familiarity with macOS internals matters more than years of experience. If you have shipped a native macOS app, worked with Electron on Mac, or understand how macOS handles window layering and capture, that is exactly what we need.
You are comfortable in a small team where there is no handoff culture. You own what you build end to end.
Why join now
We are a small team of engineers who have worked at top-tier technology companies and we are building something engineers actually use, in one of the most stressful moments of their careers. Beta is done. We are shipping April 28th. This is the right moment to get in.
