What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Security Officer position at Factory Motor Parts?
Under general supervision, this position provides armed protection at FMP’s headquarters, along with performing routine security services to ensure the safety, security of individuals, and property across multiple Factory Motor Parts facilities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Security Officer will have expertise in the following areas and will be responsible for reporting and communication as directed by the Security Supervisor:
- Provide physical security and customer service at FMP headquarters and events.
- Conduct investigations and document incidents.
- Support the investigation team by gathering footage as needed.
- Perform virtual patrols across numerous national locations by overseeing access control, alarms, and cameras at all locations.
- Dispatch first responders to locations when needed.
- Manage multiple telephone lines, responding to each caller in a professional manner while gathering necessary information and addressing their concerns effectively.
- Assisting with fleet management assignment and monitoring.
- Enforce and inform employees of security, safety, and fire protection policies.
- Remotely secure building area by locking and unlocking doors at scheduled times.
- Verification of alarms at FMP locations.
- Monitor areas for suspicious activities, crimes, or safety violations.
- Monitor systems to ensure building safety and security, alerting designated staff in emergencies.
- Audit the surveillance system to confirm proper functioning and submit service requests when necessary.
- Create employee IDs, assign alarm, camera, and card access to authorized personnel.
- Be available to work weekends, holidays, nights, and additional hours as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office, Google Forms, and security software.
- Proficient with cameras, alarms, and access control systems.
- Knowledge of state statutes, traffic laws, and security procedures.
- Ability to write comprehensive factual reports.
- Capable of responding promptly and driving safely.
- Ability to work independently and solve diverse problems using deductive reasoning.
- Knowledge of proper safety precautions and first aid techniques for effectively handling emergencies.
- Demonstrates good judgment, mental alertness, and trustworthiness in dealing with situations.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information responsibly.
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; higher education in a relevant field is a plus.
- At least five years of proven experience in private security, military, or law enforcement roles.
- First Aid/CPR certification (training provided by FMP).
- Current MN permit to carry.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- No criminal history.
- Knowledge of security protocols, procedures, and best practices.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to make decisions under pressure and respond to emergencies.
- Proficiency in security-related technology and systems.
PREFERRED EDUCATION BEYOND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Law Enforcement or related field
