We are currently seeking an experienced Lead Data Technician to support and assist field leadership on commercial structured cabling and low-voltage projects. This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician who can lead small crews, help maintain project production goals, and serve as a technical resource for team members in the field.
The Lead Data Technician is a hands-on role responsible for assisting Foremen with day-to-day operations while helping ensure installations are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support small crews of data technicians on commercial job sites
- Assist Foremen with coordinating daily tasks, manpower, and project workflow
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems including:
- Cat5e / Cat6 / Cat6A cabling
- Fiber optic cabling
- Voice and data systems
- Security and access control systems
- Audio/visual systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and riser diagrams
- Ensure work is completed according to company standards, customer expectations, and project schedules
- Help maintain jobsite productivity and quality control
- Train and mentor junior technicians and apprentices
- Serve as a point of contact for technicians needing technical guidance or support
- Coordinate with other trades and assist in resolving jobsite issues
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment
- Assist with material management, inventory tracking, and equipment organization
- Complete testing documentation, punch lists, and closeout items as needed
- Communicate effectively with Foremen, Project Managers, and customers
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in structured cabling or low-voltage systems
- Previous experience leading crews or mentoring technicians preferred
- Strong understanding of structured cabling installation standards and best practices
- Experience with cable termination, testing, and troubleshooting
- Ability to read blueprints and construction documents
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to lead by example
- Familiarity with BICSI standards is preferred
- Ability to operate lifts, ladders, and jobsite tools safely
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in commercial construction environments
