JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

Job Title: Electronics & Audio-Visual Technician

Exemption Status: Nonexempt

Reports To:      Electronics Fire and Safety Lead 

Funding Source: General Fund

Dept/School: Facilities

Pay Grade: Facilities – 7  261 Day

Primary Purpose:

Assist with inspections, repairs and replacements of all audio-visual (A/V) and electronic equipment, including but not limited to public address systems, master clock systems, bells, fire and security alarm systems, and certification of all district fire extinguishers. 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred
  • Training in A/V repairs or Trade School certification in electronics, preferred 
  • Valid Class C Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

 

  • Assist Lead A/V Technician in the repair and periodical inspection of fire alarm systems 
  • Inspect and process recertification of District fire extinguishers  
  • Knowledge of audio-visual equipment and electronics
  • Ability to diagnose issues with audio-visual equipment, public announcement and auditorium sound systems identify repairs or replacement
  • Ability to read and interpret cut-sheets that illustrate trouble-shooting for audio-visual equipment
  • Skilled in written documentation to denote costs associated with life-cycles of equipment
  • Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions
  • Effective organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to position

 

Experience

 

Minimum three years audio-visual diagnostic and repair experience, preferably in public education

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Maintenance and Repair

 

  1. Assist in maintaining the integrity and satisfactory operability of all District A/V equipment and various electronics by troubleshooting, repairing, or recommending replacement.
  2. Effectively plan and utilize time to complete tasks including those of a complex nature.
  3. Inspect and repair fire alarm systems and alert all parties involved to avoid repeat work and make note of systems that are candidates for upgrade or replacement.

Records and Reports

  1. Update and maintain current files and records of parts, supplies, and equipment.
  2. Document progress through written reports and completed work orders that denote the costs associated with life-cycles of A/V equipment.

 

Other

  1. Participating on the after hours on the on – call schedule and respond in a timely manner when contacted regarding urgent situations or emergencies (during or outside of normal business hours)
  2. Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model for staff and public.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.   

Safety

  1. Practice a high standard of safety in the performance of all duties and abide by District policies and procedures.
  2. Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for audio-visual and electronics equipment repair; personal computer and peripherals; small truck or van

Posture: Frequent sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; visual acuity; frequent driving; repetitive hand motion

Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 55 pounds without assistance, more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and on ladders or scaffolding; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, humidity, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, asbestos-containing materials, grease, oils, loud noises, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; occasionally work irregular or prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress and exercise reasoning and problem-solving under pressure
