About the Role
FES is seeking a Senior DDC Engineer / Programmer with deep technical expertise in building automation and control systems. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines advanced programming, field commissioning, and project delivery with mentoring and client-facing responsibilities.
You’ll lead complex projects, provide technical direction to technicians, and collaborate closely with engineering, construction, and service teams to deliver reliable, high-performance control solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Engineering Department to review and advise on control drawings and project submittals.
- Program, integrate, and commission DDC systems and field devices across multiple platforms.
- Ensure accurate operation of all building control sequences, alarms, trends, and archives.
- Develop and implement custom graphics for end-user interfaces.
- Train and mentor DDC technicians and provide system training for clients.
- Integrate BAS with third-party building systems (e.g., chillers, generators, lighting).
- Troubleshoot complex system and network issues (BACnet IP, MS/TP, LAN/WAN).
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, sequences of operation, and specifications.
- Prepare and deliver as-built documentation and support project turnover.
- Support both on-site commissioning and remote diagnostics as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Computer Technology, or a related field
- (may be offset by 5 years of direct BAS experience)
- 5–7 years of progressively responsible BAS/DDC experience, from service to full system programming.
- Proven ability to lead, coordinate, and communicate effectively on active job sites.
- Strong customer-facing skills — able to explain complex systems in simple terms.
- Experience with BACnet IP/Ethernet and MS/TP networks.
- Competence with Microsoft Office, networking, and workstation setup/configuration.
- Ability to program air-side and water-side systems end to end.
Preferred Experience
Certification and/or experience with one or more major BAS platforms:
- Schneider Electric – Continuum / EcoStruxure
- Delta Controls – enteliWEB
- Niagara – AX / N4
- Alerton – Compass
- Familiarity with SQL databases, IP networking, and server environments is a plus.
- Long-term employment history (5 years with one employer) preferred.
- Willingness to travel regionally (Maryland/DC/Virginia area).
