Job Description
Title: Assistant Director of Athletics for the Ashland Public Schools
Goal:
The Assistant Athletic Director works closely with the Athletic Director and other administrators to assist in organizing, supervising, and coordinating the interscholastic athletic program. The Assistant Athletic Director will also be responsible for coordinating field scheduling, including rentals, field management, field maintenance, and game supervision.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification
This position is classified as Exempt (Professional)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s Degree Preferred;
- Teaching experience and experience coaching at the varsity high school level are preferred. Experience in athletic administration a plus.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills;
- Experience using MUNIS and SchoolDude Software is considered a plus.
- Applicants must possess or be able to demonstrate the ability to possess Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in sports management.
- Experience in turf management / including both natural and artificial turf/playability of fields, condition, and maintenance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Athletic Director and/or the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state and federal law.
Reporting Structure:
The Assistant Athletic Director reports to the Director of Athletics and assists in directing the work of all Athletic staff, including the Athletic Trainer, Athletic Facilities Director, Athletic Administrative Assistant, and any other staff assigned to the athletic department.
Performance Responsibilities:
- In conjunction with the Principal(s) and Athletic Director, supervises all extracurricular athletic personnel, trainers, and other related athletic positions.
- Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
- Oversees, manages, and organizes Middle School Sports Programming, including scheduling, game administration, and after-school supervision.
- Works with the Director of Athletics to coordinate transportation and bus scheduling for away athletic events.
- Reviews and approves vouchers and payments for athletic event staff and game officials.
- Supervises and is responsible for athletic event setup, takedown, and administrative coverage, including night, weekend, and vacation-week competitions and activities.
- Manage MIAA and Arbiter - Including Student User Fees
- Communicates regularly with student-athletes, faculty members, parents, and the community.
- Works with the Ashland Clocker Club to support interscholastic athletics
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events
- Hires officials, team physicians, and police officers as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games and practices.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Supervises the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment and supplies.
- Arranges all details of visiting teams’ needs, including lodging, meals, towels, gymnasium services, and field assistance as appropriate.
- Assists the Director of Facilities in the management, supervision, and maintenance planning of fields and athletic facilities.
- Evaluates, in cooperation with the Director of Athletics, the performance of all coaches at the conclusion of each season or activity.
- Deconflicts multiple user groups vying for limited field space.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, the Superintendent, or designee.
Terms of Employment:
This is a full-year position with an individual contract. Terms of employment will be negotiated with the Superintendent of Schools to include, but are not limited to, salary, vacation and sick days, and other benefits. Salary up to $85,000
Evaluation:
The Assistant Athletic Director will be evaluated annually by the Director of Athletics.
Physical Working Conditions:
This work is performed indoors and outdoors, including in inclement weather. Work involves potential exposure to extreme temperatures and loud noise. Lifting, pushing, and pulling equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally heavier, is required; Walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs. The work requires frequent in- and out-of-district travel, as well as many evenings and weekends.
