Qualifications
Degree in architecture or engineering plus four years experience OR a degree in building construction, architectural technology, etc. OR associate degree in building technology and seven years experience
Experience with contractors or in field inspection with A/E ten (10) to fifteen (15) years experience depending on quality of experience
Must be insurable by district insurance carrier

Job Goal
To supervise all phases of the construction process to include programming, planning, design, building, and construction for projects within Jackson Public Schools.
Essential Functions
- Assists in all construction phases from programming to final completion
- Consults in determining the needs of the system with respect to modifications, alterations, or additions to plant facilities.
- Advises the director in the selection of architects and engineers for specific plants renovations and additions; draft professional contracts.
- Advises and establishes a budget for proposed project to be contracted.
- Advises the architect/engineer and makes professional suggestions in areas of cost, design, contract, documents, systems, and scheduling.
- Consults with Facilities Operations staff for special projects and estimating improvements.
- Receives, tabulates, and assesses bids.
- Makes recommendations for award of construction contracts.
- Prepares and keeps field log and performs periodic site inspections.
- Use Microsoft Word or other document software to prepare field logs.
- Executes field orders and change orders from inception to board recommendation.
- Processes applications for payment.
- Familiar with AIA documents.
- Can read and interpret building plans and specifications.
- Monitors construction schedules.
- Processes closing documents.
- Communicates well verbally and written.
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
- Develop drawings and specifications for internal JPS projects.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
