Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Shop Mechanic specializing in Heavy Equipment Service to join our team. In this role, you will assist experienced mechanics with the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a wide range of construction machinery. Your hands-on skills will contribute to the efficient operation of heavy equipment, ensuring safety, reliability, and optimal performance. Responsibilities
- Assist with the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of dump trucks heavy equipment including excavators, and construction machinery.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, tire service, and lubrication to keep equipment operating smoothly.
- Support electrical diagnostics and repairs on various systems including electrical wiring, sensors, starters, alternators, and electrical schematics.
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other shop tools to execute repairs and fabrication tasks accurately.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, brakes, HVAC systems, and diesel engines.
- Assist with assembling new equipment or parts following OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications and schematics.
- Maintain detailed service records and documentation for all repairs performed on heavy machinery.
- Support heavy lifting operations safely using appropriate lifting equipment such as cranes or forklifts.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards during all maintenance activities and promote a safe work environment.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a mechanic in a dealership or heavy equipment service environment is highly preferred.
- Hands-on knowledge of construction machinery maintenance and repair is essential.
- Familiarity with OEM parts and specifications for John Deere equipment or similar brands is advantageous.
- Experience with fabrication techniques including welding and soldering is desirable.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems diagnostics including schematics interpretation.
- Knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics and repair procedures is required.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools for automotive and industrial equipment troubleshooting.
- Prior experience working with farm machinery or industrial equipment is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment safely during service procedures is beneficial.
- Excellent mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to read technical manuals and schematics will ensure success in this role.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
