A reputable, high-volume accounting and tax preparation firm with over 58 years servicing the community is seeking a seasonal, experienced tax preparer. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of current federal and state income tax law as well as have the personal skills to meet and assist clients through the tax preparation process.
The tax preparer will be responsible for preparing income tax returns, conducting tax research if necessary, and providing to the client actionable guidance on potential tax savings strategies. The role also requires strong verbal communication skills and a client-centered approach to ensure accurate, transparent communication about tax payments, liabilities, and deductions.
Key Responsibilities
As a tax Preparer, you will:
- Prepare tax returns. Complete and file income tax returns for individual and self-employed clients, ensuring compliance with IRS and DOR regulations and accuracy in reporting.
- Conduct tax research. If necessary, have the skillset to research tax questions required to file compliant returns.
- Develop tax strategies. Identify and implement tax strategies that minimize tax liabilities and maximize tax savings.
- Manage tax planning. Advise clients on effective tax planning for upcoming tax years to ensure financial readiness and efficient tax payments.
- Maintain client tax files. Keep client tax files well-organized and updated through the entire tax preparation process.
Qualifications and Skills
To be considered for the role of tax preparer, candidates should have:
- Education Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Will accept equivalent work experience
- Experience. Two years of experience in tax accounting, tax preparation, or a similar role, with a proven track record of managing tax responsibilities.
- Analytical skills. Strong analytical skills for evaluating financial records and identifying strategic tax-saving opportunities.
- Time management. Effective time management skills to prioritize multiple clients, manage deadlines, and meet tax filing dates.
- Knowledge of tax regulations. In-depth understanding of tax laws, IRS regulations, and compliance requirements to ensure accuracy and avoid potential issues.
- Communication skills. Excellent verbal communication skills to facilitate clear discussions with clients and explain tax strategies effectively.
- Software proficiency. Firm uses Intuit ProSeries for personal income tax preparation so experience with this program is preferred but not required. Further, a general familiarity with Office 360 as well as QuickBooks would be a plus.
- Organizational skills. Strong organizational skills for managing client files, tracking financial statements, and overseeing client data securely.
