What are the responsibilities and job description for the Retail Sales Associate position at Fabric Factory?
Part-Time Sales & Customer Experience Associate
Fabric Factory | Oklahoma City, OK
For over 40 years, Fabric Factory has been Oklahoma City's destination for designer fabrics, trims, and home décor textiles. We're looking for a friendly, dependable team member who enjoys helping people, has strong math skills, and takes pride in providing exceptional customer service.
Success in this role comes from excellent customer service, attention to detail, and confidence working with numbers. We can teach fabric knowledge—we can't teach a positive attitude, curiosity, or a willingness to learn.
This is much more than a typical retail position. Every day is different. One customer may be recovering a dining chair on a budget, while the next is working with an interior designer to furnish an entire home. We welcome everyone—from first-time DIYers to seasoned trade professionals—and our goal is to make every customer feel confident, comfortable, and excited about their project.
Hours: 15–25 hours per week, including two Saturdays per month.
What You'll Do
- Welcome every customer with friendly, attentive service.
- Help customers select fabrics and trims for upholstery, drapery, bedding, pillows, and other home décor projects.
- Measure and cut fabric accurately to customer specifications.
- Calculate yardage, pricing, and custom order totals with confidence and accuracy.
- Learn about hundreds of fabric collections, fibers, and manufacturers so you can confidently assist customers.
- Process in-store purchases, special orders, and online orders.
- Respond professionally to customer emails and assist with e-commerce order fulfillment.
- Use our point-of-sale system, Shopify, email, and other computer-based tools throughout the day.
- Receive and stock merchandise, organize displays, and maintain a clean, inviting showroom.
- Work alongside a knowledgeable team to create an exceptional customer experience.
What We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate is someone who:
- Enjoys working with numbers. Accurate math and measurements are a critical part of this position. You'll regularly calculate fabric yardage, pricing, and custom orders.
- Loves helping people and delivers outstanding customer service.
- Is comfortable using computers, email, and learning new software.
- Has experience with online shopping platforms or e-commerce (a plus, but not required).
- Learns quickly and enjoys gaining new knowledge.
- Pays close attention to detail and takes pride in accuracy.
- Is dependable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Enjoys staying busy and comfortably shifts between helping customers in the showroom and completing online orders.
- Can comfortably stand, walk, and lift fabric rolls throughout the day.
Previous retail experience is preferred. Experience with fabrics, sewing, quilting, upholstery, interior design, or Shopify is a plus—but not required. We're happy to train the right person.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- Flexible part-time schedule (15–25 hours per week)
- Employee discount
- Paid training
- Supportive, experienced team
- A creative, collaborative workplace where you'll learn something new every day
