What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Coordinator position at F5 Project?
Job Description:
A Housing Coordinator is a dedicated individual with lived experience in recovery, mental health, justice system involvement, or housing instability. In this role, you will support participants as they transition into structured, recovery-focused housing, helping them build self-sufficiency, connection, and accountability during a critical stage of reentry.
As a non-residential staff member in the Bismarck transitional living program, you will be responsible for ensuring daily housing operations, providing consistent peer-based support, and maintaining a safe, substance-free environment. You will lead house meetings, manage intakes, conduct routine wellness and safety checks, and work collaboratively with participants, internal staff, and community partners to foster growth and connection.
This position is ideal for someone who values second chances, understands the complexity of early recovery, and is ready to walk alongside others in their pursuit of stability and change.
Role Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain supportive relationships with housing participants through trust, structure, and lived experience
- Lead weekly house meetings that promote peer accountability, resource-sharing, and personal development
- Conduct daily house walkthroughs (Monday–Friday) to ensure cleanliness, safety, and adherence to guidelines
- Perform bed checks at least three times per week and facilitate both scheduled and randomized drug/alcohol screenings
- Manage housing intakes: review applications, conduct interviews, and support participant orientation
- Maintain accurate documentation in the BEHAVE database, including case notes and phase placements
- Collaborate with the Transitional Living Program Administrator to enhance programming and address housing needs
- Provide informal peer support and motivation to residents navigating early recovery and reentry
- Track and collect program fees, documenting payments and supporting residents with budgeting strategies
- Coordinate limited transportation assistance (e.g., 50% of cost for work travel – one direction)
- Support participants in employment readiness and community connection
- Maintain close communication with internal teams, including Care Coordinators, Peer Support Specialists, and leadership
- Uphold participant confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times
- Attend Narcan training and be prepared to administer it during emergencies
- Fulfill mandatory reporting responsibilities in accordance with state law
- Participate in ongoing professional development and apply evidence-based, recovery-informed practices
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Lived experience with substance use recovery, mental health challenges, incarceration, or housing instability
- Ability to build trust, set boundaries, and support individuals navigating complex challenges
- Demonstrated experience managing documentation and facilitating group or one-on-one engagement
- Proficient in basic computer systems and willing to learn housing-related software and databases
- Must be flexible and available for evening responsibilities (e.g., Monday house meetings) and occasional crisis support
- Willingness to complete Narcan training (if not already certified) and administer Narcan in an emergency
- Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist (PSS) with the State of North Dakota by the first day of employment. Candidates not yet certified may qualify if enrolled in a recognized North Dakota peer support training within 90 days of hire and obtain certification within 45 days of completing the training.
- Must have a high school diploma/GED or demonstrate the ability to read and write proficiently for documentation and training
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in peer support, transitional housing, reentry programs, or behavioral health services
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented systems of care
- Proficiency in using the BEHAVE database or other case management systems
- Strong group facilitation, conflict resolution, and crisis response skills
- Understanding of program fee systems or rental assistance frameworks
