Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit medical claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements and coding standards.
- Apply accurate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes to medical procedures and diagnoses for precise billing.
- Review medical records and documentation to verify billing accuracy and completeness.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance companies and patients to facilitate timely collections.
- Maintain detailed records of all billing activities, including claim submissions, adjustments, and collections.
- Stay current with industry regulations, coding updates, and insurance policies to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve billing discrepancies and improve overall revenue cycle management.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing or coding within a healthcare setting is required.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and billing procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and documentation purposes.
- Experience working with CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and medical collections processes.
- Ability to interpret complex medical records accurately for proper coding and billing.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in handling sensitive patient information.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced medical office environment is preferred but not mandatory.
