Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide vision, direction, and leadership to the Safety team to achieve corporate safety goals and objectives.
  • Conduct performance reviews of safety team members to support their engagement, growth, goal achievement and development of their succession plan and for the department.
  • Partner with senior and operational leadership to integrate safety initiatives into daily operations and strategic planning.
  • Act as a company representative with the FAA, other regulatory authorities, and customers on safety-related matters.
  • Act on-behalf of the Vice President of Safety, as needed.

Safety Management System (SMS)

  • Ensure the Safety Management System is fully implemented, maintained, and continuously improved in accordance with 14 CFR Part 5, ICAO Annex 19, and industry best practices.
  • Develop, track, and report key safety performance indicators (SPIs), metrics, and KPIs to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Oversee the independent audit and evaluation process for the SMS and Safety Program.

Program Development & Oversight

  • Lead the design and execution of occupational health and safety programs that prevent injuries, reduce incident rates, and control costs (e.g., workers’ compensation).
  • Develop, review, and update safety policies and procedures to address operational risks across maintenance, ramp, and support functions.
  • Performs and directs the investigation of incidents. Reviews investigation findings, root cause analysis, and works with operations to determine corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee the Emergency Response Plan (ERP), ensuring readiness through periodic reviews, drills, and exercises.

Training, Culture & Engagement

  • Continuously enhance safety education and training programs to promote engagement and safety awareness at all levels of the organization.
  • Champion a positive reporting and just culture that encourages open communication and proactive hazard identification.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for Safety team members, fostering professional growth, accountability, and succession planning.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Monitor compliance with all applicable FAA, OSHA, EPA, and customer safety requirements, ensuring alignment across domestic and international operations.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to administer workers’ compensation programs and injury management processes.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive reporting systems, safety dashboards, and performance analytics for executive review.
  • Provide data-driven safety risk analyses to inform leadership decisions and drive continuous improvement.

Other Requirements

  • Available for on-call duties as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Safety, Safety Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in aviation safety, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Formal training and demonstrated experience in Safety Management Systems (SMS) implementation.
  • Proven success in cultivating safety culture and leading multi-site safety operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, 14 CFR Part 145, and Part 121 regulatory environments.
  • A&P or Commercial Pilot Certificate preferred.
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Miami area.

  • Strong understanding of SMS, ERP, ASAP, and related aviation safety programs.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Skilled in risk assessment, data analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver clear, concise reports and presentations.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across departments.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible or irregular hours as necessary.
