Summary: Inspects materials received, finished products, and work in process of fabrication into metal products to ensure conformance with work orders and diagrammatic and template specifications by performing the below essential duties.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to: 

  • Measures centerlines and reference points to verify initial and assembly layout and machine setup.
  • Verifies physical properties and size of materials such as plates, sheets, structural shapes, castings, forgings, dies, fixtures, and work produced by fabricating machines.
  • Completes nondestructive testing with liquid penetrant
  • Performs visual inspection for rough edges, cracks, and appearance.
  • Identifies parts for acceptance or rejection.
  • Utilizes hand tools to measure dimensions per specification. (Calipers, Micrometers, Machinist Scale, Tape Measure)
  • Reports inspection results on detailed forms and documents.
  • Operates a positive metal identification device.
  • Enters data pertaining to nonconformance information, test results, and order status on a computer terminal.
  • Inspects product to define tolerances.
  • Operates forklift.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Knowledge of and/or experience in the manufacture of metal pipe fittings is essential. 
  • Education and/or Experience: Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must maintain Level II SNT-TC-1A for liquid penetrant testing or have the required hours and records to test against level II requirements.  
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations such as meetings to other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills:  Basic computer terminal keyboarding skills are preferred.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: LPT Certification Required or have the required hours and records to test against level II requirements.
