Overview
This position consists of optical technician responsibilities such as helping patients select eyewear, reviewing their visual needs and options for their lenses with the doctor, and determining insurance benefits for the patients.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on their prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and personal preferences.
- Take precise measurements of pupillary distance, frame size, and other vital signs to ensure optimal fit and comfort.
- Use EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems to work with the patient's prescription needs as well as posting charges to patient bills.
- Assist patients with glasses adjustments, warranties, nose pad repair, etc.
- Fit lenses, adjust frames, and ensure quality control of finished eyewear.
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care, lens options, and contact lens usage while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage retail sales processes efficiently using retail math skills while providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Answering office phone calls and other clerical work is also expected beyond optician duties.
Requirements
- Experience is preferred but not required. On-site training is provided. Math skills and personal skills are very important for this position. Basic use of small tools is required as frames frequently need adjusting to fit patient, or repair work if materials are brought in needing repair. Applicant must be able to communicate well with patients, other staff, and optical laboratory.
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15.0 – 25.0 per week
