Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with the intake process to ensure accurate medical records.
  • Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to support comprehensive eye exams.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by performing preliminary tests including refraction, visual acuity assessments, and intraocular pressure measurements.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to uphold safety standards and protect patient health.
  • Assist the optometrist during exams by handling equipment setup, sterilization, and documentation of findings using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Epic.
  • Educate patients on optical products, lens options, and basic eye health practices; support retail sales efforts when appropriate.
  • Manage front desk duties such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and handling medical records efficiently.

Experience

  • Prior experience in a medical office setting or ophthalmology clinic is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of optical procedures, ophthalmology terminology, anatomy of the eye, and physiology is essential.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Experience with medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmic services is a plus.
  • Background in retail sales or front desk operations combined with excellent customer service skills will help you excel in this role.
  • Previous exposure to pediatrics or clinic environments will be beneficial for supporting diverse patient needs.
