Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with the intake process to ensure accurate medical records and appointment scheduling.
- Obtain and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and vision measurements with precision and care.
- Prepare exam rooms using aseptic techniques to uphold infection control standards during eye examinations and procedures.
- Support optometrists by managing patient flow, documenting medical history, and assisting with basic ophthalmic tests.
- Operate electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or other EMR platforms to accurately document patient interactions and clinical notes.
- Handle front desk duties including appointment scheduling, insurance verification, billing, and managing patient inquiries with professionalism.
- Maintain organized medical records, ensure HIPAA compliance for patient privacy, and assist in medical coding for billing purposes.
- Promote retail sales of optical products by understanding patient needs and providing knowledgeable recommendations.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office setting or optical practice is highly preferred; familiarity with ophthalmology or pediatrics is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to eye health, and clinic procedures.
- Experience with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms; proficiency in medical billing and coding is advantageous.
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate clearly, empathetically, and professionally.
- Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately while maintaining aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Retail sales experience combined with strong math skills to support retail product recommendations effectively.
