DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Examines the vision and ocular pathways of patients of all ages for vision errors/disorders, ocular diseases, ocular trauma/infections, and systemic ocular complications.
- Monitors ocular health for systemic conditions.
- Communicates with patients to get detailed case histories.
- Uses ophthalmic equipment for diagnostic testing and subjective and objective interpretation.
- Performs refractions for eyeglasses, contact lenses, or specialty lens prescriptions.
- Manages fitting, ordering, and dispensing of eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions.
- Provides advice, reassurance, and patient care on visionrelated matters.
- Makes proper and prompt referrals and provides adequate documentation as needed.
- Directs dispensing opticians and clerical staff.
- Knowledge of ocular disease processes and treatments.
- Knowledge of prescribing and fitting glasses/contact lenses.
- Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment needed to conduct examinations.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of patient personalities.
- Ability to work in a highvolume optical setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A strong sense of workplace professionalism and personal ethics.
- Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree.
- Valid state license to practice optometry.
- 12 years related experience and/or training (preferred).
- Ocular disease management experience (preferred).
- Optical experience with prescribing and fitting glasses and contact lenses (preferred).
- Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of staterequired auto insurance.
Salary: $150,000 - $190,000 per year depending on experience.
