What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optician position at Eye Lab Scottsdale?
About Us
Eye Lab is a patient-focused private practice that believes in quality over quantity. Unlike high-volume offices that schedule 10-minute exams, our appointments are scheduled in 30-minute time slots so our team has enough time to properly care for each patient.
Our office also features a high-end optical boutique that offers premium eyewear and serves a clientele that values quality products and personalized service. Because of this, attention to detail and exceptional customer service are at the core of everything we do. We strive to create an environment where both patients and staff feel comfortable, respected, and not rushed throughout the day.
Position Overview
We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and motivated Optician / Optometric Technician to join our team. This hybrid role involves both assisting patients with eyewear selection in the optical and performing technician duties to prepare patients for their eye exams.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, takes pride in providing great service, and is comfortable balancing both clinical and optical responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with selecting eyeglass frames and lenses based on their prescription, lifestyle, and visual needs
- Adjust, repair, and dispense eyeglasses
- Perform pre-testing before the doctor exam (auto-refraction, retinal imaging, OCT, visual field, etc.)

- Assist with patient flow and support the doctor during exams when needed
- Educate patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and care
- Help manage contact lens inventory and orders
- Post insurance payments and assist with basic front desk tasks when needed
- Maintain a clean and organized optical and testing area
- Provide a welcoming and professional experience for every patient
Who We’re Looking For
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a patient-centered private practice rather than a high-volume corporate setting. We value team members who take pride in their work, pay attention to detail, and enjoy building genuine relationships with patients.
Because we focus on quality care and premium eyewear, we are looking for someone who is comfortable spending time with patients, educating them on their options, and providing a high level of service rather than rushing through transactions.
