Job Description: Ophthalmic Technician
General Summary: We are looking for an Experienced Ophthalmic Technician.
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of two years of experience working as an ophthalmic technician. COA certification will be looked upon very favorably.
Job qualifications:
Education/training: High school graduate or GED, Associates Degree or higher preferred. Certification in Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant a plus.
Experience:
- 2 years of medical office experience in a physician’s office or equivalent working as an Ophthalmic Technician
Skills:
- EHR experience (MDIntellesys preferred)
- Manifest Refraction
- Familiarity with contact lenses
- Ability to use HVF, Fundus Camera, OCT, Cornea Topography, etc diagnostic equipment
- Comfort with calling in medication prescriptions and discussing patient concerns in person and over the phone
- Personable and able to deal with sometimes difficult patients
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment
Physical abilities:
- Sit for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, stoop and stretch
- Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment
- Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: the ability to focus
- Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
- Occasionally drive to other locations
- Maintain a current and valid driver’s license

Requirements:
- Excellent documentation skills
- Ability to pay close attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Multi task, prioritize, and solve insurance issues
- Experience completing accurate MRX, ARX, and I&R with contact lenses
- Bi-lingual Spanish speaker is preferred

The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public.
