Job Description: Ophthalmic Technician

General Summary: We are looking for an Experienced Ophthalmic Technician.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of two years of experience working as an ophthalmic technician. COA certification will be looked upon very favorably.

Job qualifications:

Education/training: High school graduate or GED, Associates Degree or higher preferred. Certification in Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant a plus.

Experience:

• 2 years of medical office experience in a physician’s office or equivalent working as an Ophthalmic Technician

Skills:

• EHR experience (MDIntellesys preferred)
• Manifest Refraction
• Familiarity with contact lenses
• Ability to use HVF, Fundus Camera, OCT, Cornea Topography, etc diagnostic equipment
• Comfort with calling in medication prescriptions and discussing patient concerns in person and over the phone
• Personable and able to deal with sometimes difficult patients
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment

Physical abilities:

• Sit for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, stoop and stretch
• Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment
• Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: the ability to focus
• Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
• Occasionally drive to other locations
• Maintain a current and valid driver’s license

Requirements:

• Excellent documentation skills
• Ability to pay close attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills
• Multi task, prioritize, and solve insurance issues
• Experience completing accurate MRX, ARX, and I&R with contact lenses
• Bi-lingual Spanish speaker is preferred

Work environment:

The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public.
