Job Summary:
The Ophthalmic Imaging Technician is responsible for performing a variety of advanced diagnostic tests and imaging procedures to assist ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. This position plays a critical role in patient care by capturing high-quality, accurate diagnostic images using state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic imaging procedures including but not limited to Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Visual Field Testing, and Lenstar Optical Biometry.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality during all procedures.
- Accurately input and document patient data and test results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Maintain and calibrate imaging equipment as per manufacturer specifications and clinic protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to interpret results and determine further diagnostic needs.
- Educate patients about procedures and provide instructions when necessary.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and follow infection control policies.
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with ophthalmic imaging technologies and practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), or Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS) preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in ophthalmic imaging or similar clinical role.
- Proficiency with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment including OCT, visual fields, ultrasound biometry (A-Scan/B-Scan), and Lenstar.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate diagnostic equipment.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced outpatient clinic setting.
Frequent patient interaction requiring professionalism and empathy.
