Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations by documenting clinical notes and procedures as a scribe.
- Prepare patients for exams by taking vital signs, performing intake assessments, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinic policies, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Perform basic ophthalmic testing such as visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, and other preliminary evaluations.
- Apply aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and maintain a sterile environment.
- Support front desk operations including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing medical records.
- Utilize EMR systems such as Chartlogic or other electronic health record platforms for documentation and data entry.
- Assist with optical services when needed, including frame selection and retail sales of eyewear products.
- Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care while demonstrating professionalism and empathy.
Experience
- Prior experience in medical office settings, particularly within ophthalmology or optometry clinics is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy (especially ocular anatomy), physiology related to eye health, and medical coding/billing is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with EMR systems is advantageous.
- Experience with intake procedures, vital signs collection, and patient care is essential.
- Retail sales experience or front desk responsibilities involving retail math can be beneficial for supporting optical services.
