Optician / Front Office Optical Specialist

Eye Clinic North is growing and is looking to add an experienced or aspiring optician to our team.

This position is designed for someone with an interest or background in optical who is also comfortable working in a busy front-office environment. Because understanding scheduling, insurance benefits, patient flow, and our office systems is an important foundation for success in optical, new team members begin by learning our front desk and reception processes before transitioning more heavily into optical responsibilities.

Over time, this role becomes primarily focused on optical care while remaining cross-trained in front-office duties. We are specifically looking for someone who enjoys both patient interaction and optical work and who values being part of a highly cross-trained team.

What You’ll Do

Initially, responsibilities will include:

• Greeting and checking in patients
• Scheduling appointments
• Answering phones and assisting patients
• Learning insurance benefits and office procedures
• Supporting patient flow throughout the practice

As training progresses, responsibilities will increasingly include:

• Assisting patients with frame selection
• Educating patients about lens materials, designs, coatings, and treatment options
• Taking accurate optical measurements
• Ordering and verifying eyewear
• Dispensing, fitting, and adjusting glasses
• Performing minor eyewear repairs and troubleshooting

Even after transitioning into optical, this position will remain cross-trained and will continue to assist with front-office responsibilities as needed.

Training & Advancement

Eye Clinic North invests in staff education and advancement. We provide and pay for optical coursework including board certification in opticianry (ABO) and encourage employees to continue developing their skills within the practice.

Employees have opportunities for scheduled wage increases as they complete training, expand their responsibilities, and gain additional expertise. Cross-training into other departments, such as technician, is encouraged.

• Has previous optical or eye-care experience, or a strong interest in developing optical skills
• Enjoys working directly with patients
• Is comfortable balancing customer service, administrative work, and optical responsibilities
• Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Is dependable, self-motivated, and a strong team member
• Has strong attention to detail
• Is comfortable with computers and technology
• Can multitask effectively in a busy environment
• Has a positive attitude and willingness to learn

Previous optician, optical sales, eyewear, or eye-care experience is preferred.

Schedule & Benefits

Full-time position

Monday–Thursday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM

Starting compensation is based on previous directly relevant optical and eye-care experience, training, and certifications. Starting wage without experience is $17/hr, which increases to $22 , depending on experience in optical and other areas of the clinic.
