Description
SUMMARY: The primary responsibilities of this position include meeting with patients to review their health history prior to surgery. As needed, this position will assist with pre and post-op nursing duties in the pre and post area as well as the OR. This position will report to the ASC director.
POSITION DUTIES:
A. Gathers data on patient history to assist with surgical planning
- Performs pre-op history in person or via phone for all patients.
- Review health history, including medications, any allergies, and review specific instructions for patient requirements prior to surgery.
- Explains procedures/treatment/discharge to patient and/or family members.
- Follows up with patient phone calls prior to procedure.
B. Communicates appropriately with other medical professionals/facilities as needed for patients that require medical clearance in-order to move forward with surgery.
- Documents all observations and medical clearance in the medical record.
- Communicates any patient concerns to the appropriate surgeon.
C. Performs consistently in a professional, legal, and ethical manner.
- Honors ASC Patient Rights & Responsibilities; provides for patient confidentiality and privacy.
- Maintains in-service requirements.
- Follows appropriate actions to take in any facility emergency.
- Observes all policies and procedures.
- Utilizes MSDS manual as prescribed.
D. Performs administrative duties as assigned
- Scanning documents into the patient record
- Filing documents for billing and anesthesia
- Formulating and stocking patient education for Cataract folders
E. Performs as a team player, actively participating in meetings and committees as appropriate.
- Assists the Pre and Post op nurses with tasks within scope.
- Assists OR with supply management and cleaning.
- Completes all other tasks as delegated by the ASC Director.
Requirements
I. QUALIFICATIONS
A. High school diploma required. Preferred Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice in Maine.
B. Two years’ experience in the medical field required.
C. BCLS certification required
II. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Good general physical health required due to long periods of standing, walking, and lifting work. Must be well coordinated and have full mobility. Dexterity necessary.
B. This position often exerts 25lbs of force, occasionally exerts up to 75lbs of force. Occasionally stooping, crouching, kneeling, overhead reaching, below level reaching, lifting and carrying a maximum of 50lbs.
C. Visual and audio acuity as needed to meet job performance required, including paper and computer screens. Must be able to speak clearly and distinctly. Must be able to listen and direct.
D. Must be able to respond to challenging situations with emotional stability. Must be able to demonstrate skill in organization of multiple tasks.
E. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and medicinal preparations. substances, and medicinal preparations.
