By driving on‑time delivery and cost‑effective purchasing decisions, the Purchasing Specialist plays a critical role in optimizing inventory levels and maintaining production continuity.
Explore Your Tasks And Responsibilities
Purchasing & Material Acquisition
- Create and issue purchase orders for raw materials, components, fabricated parts, consumables, and MRO items.
- Review manufacturing requirements, BOMs, and production schedules to determine purchasing needs.
- Obtain competitive quotes from approved suppliers and support cost reduction initiatives.
- Track open orders daily to ensure materials ship and arrive on schedule.
- Communicate material specifications, quantities, drawings, revisions, and delivery requirements to suppliers.
- Follow up with vendors on order confirmations, lead times, delays, and backorders.
- Assist with supplier performance monitoring (on time delivery, quality, responsiveness).
- Collaborate with production planners to support build schedules and respond to material shortages.
- Work with inventory control and warehouse teams to resolve receiving issues—including overages, damaged goods, incorrect materials, or missing certs.
- Help maintain safety stock and reorder points for critical manufacturing items.
- Verify that purchased materials meet required specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data for part numbers, suppliers, pricing, and lead times.
- Coordinate with engineering on drawing changes, new part introductions, and supplier capability questions.
- Work with quality teams to support nonconformance resolution and corrective actions.
- Support finance with invoice discrepancies and cost verification.

Education/Experience
- Associate degree in Supply Chain, Business, Manufacturing Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 1–2 years of purchasing, production support, or related experience—preferably in manufacturing.
- Understanding basic manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, assembly) is a plus.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Infor LN).
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to prioritize in a fast paced production environment.
- Effective communication skills with internal teams and suppliers.
