What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing R&D Engineer position at Exxelia US?
Are you an innovative R&D Engineer eager to make a significant impact with a global leader specializing in high-reliability capacitors for critical industries including aerospace, defense, and civil aviation? Exxelia is seeking a passionate engineer to join our Capacitor Engineering team. This is your chance to drive cutting-edge product innovation, owning the full lifecycle of capacitor design from prototyping through testing and qualification. In this role, you will be the subject matter expert for a designated portfolio of capacitor materials, working closely with cross-functional teams to push the boundaries of performance, quality, and reliability in demanding environments
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead and material subject matter expert for designated materials used in capacitor manufacturing.
- Lead end-to-end custom and standard capacitor design projects, taking products from initial concept through prototyping, qualification, and transition into production.
- Build, and evaluate functional prototypes to validate electrical, mechanical, and thermal performance parameters.
- Define, plan, and execute rigorous qualification testing protocols and environmental stress testing (e.g., life testing, thermal shock, vibration) in compliance with space and military standards.
- Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on prototype, qualification, and returned test units to drive continuous product and material improvements.
- Partner with raw material suppliers to evaluate, select, and characterize new material formulations and alternative material sources.
- Collaborate with Process Engineering and Manufacturing teams to ensure new capacitor designs seamlessly transition from R&D prototyping to full-scale production.
- Maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including design guidelines, technical specifications, material safety parameters, test plans, and qualification reports.
- Provide technical direction and expertise to teams to support customer-specific design-in requirements and custom solutions.
Role Requirements:
- BS degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or similar field.
- 3 years of experience in product development, material characterization, or R&D engineering within passive electronic components or a related high-reliability industry.
- Deep technical understanding of capacitor technologies, dielectric materials, and passive component fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with material characterization, prototype fabrication, and electrical test equipment.
- Strong knowledge of qualification standards, reliability modeling, and failure analysis methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills using data-driven methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple and varied responsibilities in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
- Experience in a high-performance manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
