The Role
We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to lead the transition of new products from R&D to manufacturing, ensuring performance, quality, and cost objectives are met. You’ll own product lifecycle support, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with internal teams, customers, and manufacturing partners to deliver best-in-class scientific instruments.
What You’ll Do
- Lead mechanical design of subsystems, optics/laser mounts, electronic enclosures, and assemblies
- Translate R&D concepts into manufacturable products with robust CAD models, drawings, and specifications
- Drive design-for-manufacture improvements, including labor/time analysis, jigs, tools, and workflows
- Partner with procurement and manufacturing teams to manage BOMs, change control, and quality processes
- Conduct engineering analysis, risk assessments, and validation/verification testing
- Support regulatory documentation (UL/CE) and quality control development with contract manufacturers
- Lead cost reduction initiatives and product/process optimizations
- Manage assigned projects from planning through execution
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 5 years in design and manufacturing of complex electro-mechanical systems
- Hands-on experience in analytical instrumentation, aerospace, medical devices, or optics/lasers
- Expertise in SolidWorks (complex assemblies/drawings) and PDM systems
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, and fabrication methods (CNC, 3D printing, molding)
- Experience with optics, lasers, ultra-high vacuum, mass spectrometry, or ion beam systems preferred
- Familiarity with quality systems, UL/CE standards, and regulatory compliance
- Proven ability to manage projects, solve problems, and thrive in fast-paced environments

On-site, full-time at Exum headquarters in Denver, CO.
