JOB OVERVIEW
The Family Services Specialist plays a vital role in supporting foster families throughout their foster care journey. This position is responsible for building and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with foster parents to ensure they feel supported, informed, and equipped to provide safe and nurturing care for children placed in their homes. In this vital role, you must have strong organizational skills, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to ensuring high-quality care and regulatory compliance across all foster homes.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Completes Recertification Studies to maintain all currently licensed foster families on assigned caseload.
- Completes Quarterly Facility Checklists for all assigned foster families that do not have a current placement in their home or who have clients in their home that are on your caseload.
- Creates and maintains family files through chart audits to identify and resolve health and safety needs.
- Submits documentation of all communication and visits. Uploads to the internal contact system and places it in the physical file within the required timeframe.
- Communicates verbally and in writing, in the family’s chart, all areas of concern or potential problems; updates on-call worker of any potential crises.
- Monitors and tracks training hours received by foster parents and ensures they have met their annual requirement; Documents completed training on foster parent training logs.
- Under the supervision of immediate supervisor, completes all requirements for closing and suspending foster and resource homes.
- Executes home studies and gathers all documentation necessary to license new foster homes within the timeframe required, from the completion of pre-licensure foster parent training, by the Virginia State Licensing Standards.
- Understands and utilizes all company customer relation management systems (CRM).
- Provides a positive role model, helps families to develop appropriate relational skills, connect with needed resources, and aids their clients in attaining life skills specific to the client’s treatment needs and goals.
- Assists in the clinical services department with case management as needed.
- Acts as an on-call employee on a rotating schedule, providing 24/7 support to our families and clients served and receiving emergency referrals for placement within our program after hours.
- Assists with crisis management.
- Maintains consistent communication as the primary family contact through quarterly in-person visits and monthly conversations.
- Identify and arrange respite placement and communicate with accounting for billing.
- Uploads and updates approved respite placement documents to the Electronic Health Record.
- Resolve family conflicts.
- Completes physical facility addendums through visits.
- Maintains documentation of all contacts.
- Locates and provides alternative training when needed.
- Assists agencies with client needs.
- Attends program meetings, including but not limited to weekly team meetings, family services team meetings, and any others as required.
- Participates in departmental and one-on-one supervision.
- Report any ethical and legal violations to the supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
- Knowledge of Electronic Health Record.
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA requirements.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and written with all staff, vendors, and clients.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently in a hybrid work environment.
- Ability to maintain and establish records and files.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or sociology, or a directly related human service field degree from an accredited college, is required. At least three years of experience working with the child welfare population and two years of experience in training are preferred. Evenings and weekends are required.
CASELOAD REQUIREMENTS:
- A full-time Family Services Specialist shall have a maximum family caseload of 50.
- When conducting home studies, the Family Services Specialist shall be assigned a maximum of 6 active homes.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- This position requires a valid Virginia driver's license.
- Travel up to 2 hours (one way) for visits.
- Travel between Roanoke VA, Charlottesville VA, Lynchburg VA, and Richmond VA areas.
- Must complete CPR/First Aid, Normalcy, CANS, Mental Health First Aid, and Mandated Reporter Training.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
