The Fraud Prevention Analyst is tasked with proactive identification, investigation, and prevention of fraudulent activities within the credit union. This role involves the application of advanced data analysis techniques, transaction monitoring, examining data and fraudulent activity, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to brainstorm new techniques to help prevent fraudulent activity from happening. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, addressing fraud across all areas of the credit union, creating and analyzing reports aimed at identifying potential losses, and partnering with stakeholders and relevant agencies to seek restitution. The analyst will also be responsible with assisting the Sr. Fraud Analyst in the filing of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and maintaining comprehensive case files for all investigations. In addition, the position involves providing support to other business units with fraud-related concerns while fostering a collaborative work environment. The analyst will assist the Sr. Fraud Analyst with the evaluation of fraud prevention software and procedures to assess their effectiveness in mitigating fraud. Importantly, the role demands a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all aspects due to the sensitive nature of the responsibilities involved.  

  • Guards the Credit Union assets against fraud by analyzing and recognizing potential fraud based on scope of normal activity of accounts.
  • Maintains case files and reports suspected fraud activity as required to necessary agencies.
  • Analyzes data and trends of known fraud types, fraud rings, IP addresses etc. and recommends rule and process changes.
  • Uses applicable software and reports, analyze accounts to determine if activity is potentially fraudulent and takes ownership of outcomes in fraud investigations.
  • Conducts in-depth investigations of suspected fraudulent cases, gathering evidence, interviewing stakeholders, and documenting finding to support corrective action.
  • Assist with the development of projects assigned that involve fraud mitigation perspectives.
  • Fully engage in team communication and, on occasion, provide guidance to team as appropriate.
  • Raises fraud awareness and education throughout the company, with a focus on efficiency and loss prevention.
  • Analyzes daily, weekly and monthly reports that are assigned to detect fraudulent or potentially fraudulent activity.
  • Identifies and researches all activity that may be subject to Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) and ensure filing in accordance with regulation.
  • Assists Sr. Fraud Analyst in researching and building complex fraud cases.
  • Ensures initial/follow-up SARs are completed accurately and filed timely. 
  • Completes reports, records, and documents accurately and promptly.
  • Accountable for continuous performance to complete job assigned.
  • Maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality.
  • Stays informed of trends and developments in the fraud and compliance field.
  • Promotes and establishes strong, positive and productive working relationships within the organization through commitment to the company’s purpose, mission and core values.
