OVERVIEW:

The Second Shift Security Specialist at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Inc. delivers exceptional customer service while ensuring the security and safety of the museum facility, campus, visitors, staff, volunteers, and collections. The Specialist conducts thorough patrols of the building, campus, parking, and grounds, providing exceptional service, performing hazard/safety checks and parcel inspections, as well as helping to ensure safe and effective crowd management. The incumbent upholds the museum’s high standards of safety, courtesy, presentation, cleanliness, and efficiency and maintains familiarity with Control Room operations.

REPORTS TO: Second Shift Security Manager

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides exceptional customer service to visitors, museum staff and volunteers. Enforces museum security and visitor relations policies and procedures through modeling inclusive communication and effective negotiation and conflict management skills. Assists with reuniting lost children and adults.
  2. Monitors and assist with emergency calls from within and outside the museum campus. Provides first response with first aid, to include CPR, in the treatment of injuries and illness to visitors, staff and volunteers. Supports outside agencies in planning for and during emergencies in provisions of security or medical assistance.
  3. Assists Visitor Services (VS) during regular operating hours and special events. VS responsibilities may include but are not limited to entry gates, carousel, safety, and other indoor/outdoor operations support.
  4. Conducts assigned patrols of the building, grounds and parking areas. Responsible for facility security opening/closing duties and securing the building after closing.  Conducts and reports on hazard and safety checks to protect against vandalism, misuse, damage, and theft of museum property and assets.
  5. Proactively seeks up to date information to remain knowledgeable of museum daily operations and activities, way-finding and emergency protocols.
  6. Provides leadership in emergency protocols for evacuations and relocation and assists visitors, staff, and volunteers in the event of an emergency. Participates in the Safety Warden program and assists with emergency response operations in emergency situations and drills.
  7. Maintains, logs, and organizes Lost & Found items, works with Shift Lead to return items to their owner.
  8. Ensures safe delivery of cash and money transports within the campus by escorting authorized personnel. Provides basic vehicular assistance such as jump starts, lock outs and tire changes.
  9. Remains cross-trained on Control Room operations. Scheduled as secondary Control Room Operator when needed. Monitors alarms and security cameras.
  10. Serves as backup and offers support for other departments when needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Six (6) months work experience in customer service operations and knowledge of emergency protocols. Security experience preferred.
  2. Must be CPR/AED and Stop the Bleed certified or have the ability to be certified within 6 months f hire date.
  3. Must have a valid driver's license.
  4. Demonstrated strong understanding of de-escalation and conflict resolution skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  5. Must be highly motivated, detail oriented and able to work independently with strong decision-making skills. Knowledge of computer operations and Microsoft Office applications.
  6. Must be able to work weekends, afterhours and available on holidays and overnight shifts.
  7. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work outside in all weather conditions.

*Special consideration given to those applicants who are multi-lingual.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to perform extensive work in indoor and outdoor environments, to perceive space, to read documents, view computer monitors, surveillance equipment and make general observations of people, objects and equipment.
  2. Must be able to communicate through projecting voice and varying tone. Team and group dialog required for communication of plans and concepts.
  3. Must be able to sit, stand, squat, and kneel for long periods of time frequently in uniform. Must be able to negotiate pedestrian travel throughout the museum physical plant and campus.
  4. Must be able to lift objects up to 45 pounds of weight, tolerate dust in the indoor environment and extreme temperatures, and humidity in the outdoor environment.
