Your Purpose

The Bridging the Gap Program is an innovative readiness initiative designed for associates or candidates whose skills and experience go beyond those of a typical Department Leader Trainee (DLT). Through a structured milestone approach, this program prepares associates for the Leadership Development Program (LDP) by providing in-depth training in a 360-Store Experience, financial insight, and operational effectiveness. It equips participants with the skills needed to succeed and advance into the LDP. 


The Bridging the Gap Program Associate is an ambitious and motivated individual participating in the Bridging the Gap Program. This role involves engaging in structured training designed to enhance leadership capabilities, business acumen, and operational effectiveness within the grocery retail industry.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Training Participation: Actively engage in all training sessions and activities outlined in the Bridging the Gap Program.
  • Milestone Achievement: Complete the 30-60-90-day milestones, focusing on specific areas of development including store operations, financial insight, and leadership skills.
  • Store Experience: Gain a holistic understanding of store operations through hands-on experience across different departments.
  • Financial Insight: Learn and apply financial principles relevant to grocery retail, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Operational Effectiveness: Develop skills in operational planning, process improvement, and performance management.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Store Leaders and other team members to achieve training competencies and program objectives.
  • Feedback Integration: Receive and integrate feedback from trainers and peers to continuously improve performance and understanding.
  • Project Involvement: Participate in projects and initiatives that support store operations and contribute to the overall success of the program.
  • Self-Development: Take initiative in self-learning and development, seeking additional resources and opportunities to enhance skills.

What You Bring:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:  
Some Retail Management experience

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has published guidelines for safe lifting. Based on those, Harris Teeter requires our associates to obtain assistance from a second associate ("team lifting") when lifting any case or object weighing 50lbs or greater. Harris Teeter also recognizes that some associates may need to obtain assistance with weights under 50lbs, and encourages team lifts for any weight that an associate feels uncomfortable lifting by themselves.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The associate is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and reach 6 to 48 inches, intermittently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and reach from 6 to 72 inches. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The individual is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
