About the Opportunity

Extension, Inc. is partnering with a well-established manufacturing client in Sheboygan, WI, to identify a Tooling Support Supervisor to lead its Tool Room team and drive greater organization, accountability, and continuous improvement across its manufacturing operations.

This newly created leadership opportunity is ideal for a technically strong tooling professional who understands metal manufacturing, enjoys troubleshooting complex tooling challenges, and is ready to make a broader impact through team leadership and process improvement.

You’ll oversee a team of approximately seven employees, coordinate tooling priorities with Engineering and Manufacturing, and help transition the department from a reactive, break/fix environment toward a more proactive, efficient, and organized operation.

We welcome applications from experienced supervisors as well as Senior Toolmakers, Tool & Die professionals, and Tool Room Leads who are ready to take the next step into formal leadership.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and supervise approximately seven Tool Room employees, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and priorities.
  • Manage daily staffing, scheduling, safety, quality, and workflow to support production requirements.
  • Prioritize tooling repairs and projects to keep production running efficiently and minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues, identify root causes, and determine appropriate repairs, replacement components, or outside services.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for tooling repairs, component sourcing, and specialized services.
  • Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing to align tooling priorities with production needs.
  • Improve Tool Room tracking, documentation, communication, and follow-through.
  • Identify recurring tooling issues and implement solutions that improve tooling reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Evaluate processes to reduce setup times, extend tool life, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Support standardized processes across the Tool Room and pressroom.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and recommend capital equipment investments when appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to Tool Room and production employees.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient working environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong tooling, Tool & Die, Tool Room, or related mechanical experience in a metal manufacturing environment.
  • Metal stamping experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong technical candidates ready for their first formal supervisory role are encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose tooling-related production issues.
  • Journeyman Tool & Die card or Toolmaker credentials are a plus, but not required.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field is a plus.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, including the ability to hold team members accountable and navigate difficult conversations.
  • Confidence leading an experienced team and implementing process improvements.
  • Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to prioritization, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Basic computer proficiency required; advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Ability to interpret CAD and SolidWorks drawings preferred.
  • A continuous improvement and problem-solving mindset.
