Shop Labor

Under the direct supervision of the Express Metal Works supervisor this position performs basic general labor.

• This position is considered weather essential personnel.
• Keep shop area and equipment clean and in good working order.
• Operates forklift
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers.
• Ability to read and follow instructions.
• Demonstrated communication and organizational skills…
• Working knowledge of cleaning and cutting of steel.
• Skill in running all hand tools, sledge hammers, grinders, power tools, airless paint guns/sprayers, sand blasting, and forklifts.
• Ability to work safely around power equipment and heavy hand tools.
• Ability to read a tape measure

Required Qualifications

Valid driver’s license

High school or GED is required.

Physical Demands

• Rarely performs sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
• Constantly performs light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
• Constantly performs medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally performs heavy work that includes moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.

Environmental Conditions

• Works in low temperatures during colder seasons.
• Works in high temperatures during warmer seasons.
• Works in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
• Works in noisy environments
• Works in hazardous conditions.
• Occasionally works in poor ventilation.
• Occasionally will be required to be in small and/or enclosed spaces.
• Occasionally adverse environmental conditions are expected.

Physical Activities

• Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like.
• Constantly moves self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
• Constantly moves about to accomplish tasks or moves from one workstation to another.
• Constantly adjusts or moves objects up to 5 pounds in all directions.
• Constantly communicates with others to exchange information.
• Frequently repeats motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
• Constantly operates machinery and/or power tools.
• Frequently operates motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
• Constantly assesses the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
