Responsibilities
- Safely operate various vehicles including specialized transportation vans and secured vehicles in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, loading heavy items, and ensuring proper seatbelt use to promote passenger safety.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation to handle incidents swiftly and effectively.
- Maintain clear communication with passengers using multilingual skills or basic English to ensure understanding of routes and safety instructions.
- Adhere to all vehicle codes, school policies, and state and local commercial driving laws while demonstrating defensive driving techniques.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments to ensure timely arrivals while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Conduct vehicle inspections before and after trips, perform basic mechanical checks, and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service by engaging positively with passengers of all ages, including children and seniors, fostering a welcoming environment.
- Manage behavior and discipline when necessary to ensure a safe and respectful atmosphere onboard.
- Complete detailed logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle maintenance activities accurately for record keeping.
Experience
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency stop procedures, and defensive driving techniques.
- Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable; childcare or senior care experience is a plus.
- Mechanical knowledge related to vehicle maintenance is beneficial for performing basic inspections.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are an advantage for serving diverse communities.
- Familiarity with child behavior management strategies or teaching methods can enhance passenger interactions.
