We are partnering with a well-established, small CPA firm (6-7 professionals) seeking a Tax Associate who brings more than just tax preparation skills. This client is looking for someone who can apply tax law, think critically, and contribute to client advisory work—not just input data into returns. Located in Burke, VA. This is a great opportunity for a tax professional who wants hands-on exposure, direct client interaction, and the ability to make an impact in a tight-knit firm environment. CANDIDATE MUST RESIDE IN THE GREATER DC AREA - NO out of state applications will be reviewed.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations
- Analyze and apply tax law to client situations—not just prepare returns
- Conduct tax research and clearly communicate findings and recommendations
- Provide proactive tax planning and advisory support to help clients minimize liabilities
- Serve as a point of contact for clients, explaining tax positions and implications
- Assist with IRS and state notices, audits, and related correspondence
- Maintain organized and accurate documentation across all engagements
What We’re Looking For:
- 1 years of public accounting tax experience
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax law and how it applies in practice
- Experience preparing returns for both individuals and business entities
- Ability to identify issues, not just process information
- Progress toward or possession of CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred
- Experience with tax software such as UltraTax, SurePrep, SafeSend, or similar
